About this model

A chunky toy traffic light, not a copy of any real one: a square yellow housing with a black signal head down the middle of the front and the same at the back, three big round lamps in a column, each under a black visor. The two lower lamps sit in a black light box glued over the wall: a fine grid of small diamond holes crossed by two black shutter bars, with an LED strip hidden behind the bars that lights the wall inside. The top lamp is cut right through the head as a coarser diamond grid, and the wall behind it is lit from inside. At night the top lamp shines bright amber on both sides and the two lower ones glow dimly behind their bars; by day the top lamp is the light one above two dark ones. Each visor sticks out 80 mm. Up to four laptop blades stand in a row in the housing. Its walls are solid, so from outside you never see a computer board; the light boxes, visors and collars are glued on. Air comes in through the slatted vents in the plinth and leaves through the two top lamps. You pick 2, 3 or 4 computers and the model stays the same size: 0.70 x 0.50 m, 80 cm tall.

Worth knowing

About 10.7 kg of filament with two computers and 12.5 kg with four (roughly 360 to 420 hours on a fast printer), in two colours: yellow for the housing, the head and the inner wall of the head, and black for the light boxes, the visors, the collars, the cable ducts and the head's floor plate. Print the light box tiles and the collars face down on a textured sheet so the black comes out matte. The head is printed in nine cells with a thin roof skin and glued together, so handle it with care. The visors are glued on by a narrow flange; they are decoration, never lift the traffic light by them. They stick out 80 mm and a hard knock can snap them off. The head (plate, cells, inner wall and its two collars and visors glued into one) is not glued down because it is the way in; lift it straight up with both hands under the edge of its roof, never by the visors. It needs two 1 m LED strips, one for each half of the inner wall, and one 2 m strip in each light box; the light box cable runs down a small black duct into a plinth vent. The lamps glow amber, not red, and the lower two only dimly; it is a night light effect, not a real signal lamp.

Budget black PETG.

Drives: every board keeps the drive its laptop came with (system only), so there is nothing to buy. A board bought without one needs a 256 GB M.2 2280 drive (approx. €56). Optional, not in the total: one shared disk of 1 TB or more for the render manager's shared folder, on one laptop board, in its own M.2 slot, or in a USB case (approx. €19) on the base floor. Reuse an old one, or buy a 1 TB M.2 2280 drive for approx. €136–146. Drive prices are approximate (October 2026): check before buying.

To print it at this size: 12.5 kg of PETG. Add 10% for waste and test pieces and that is 14 spools of 1 kg, approx. €196–266 with the PETG below (the shopping list above already includes filament). Print time, estimated: about 676 h with the standard 0.4 mm nozzle (Ender-3 V3 SE class), 419 h with a 0.6 mm nozzle.

Print times are slicer estimates (OrcaSlicer) and may vary by ±15 %.
