About this model

A chunky toy scarecrow of no particular story or character: a square brown coat with three big orange buttons down the front, stitched orange patches on every side and orange straw sticking out at the collar and at the hem. On top sits a pumpkin head with brown rib lines, a brown stem, a curly tendril and a leaf on its roof. The pumpkin is carved right through: two triangle eyes, a triangle nose and a jagged grin at the front, a crescent moon and five stars at the back. Inside the head an orange wall is lit from behind, so at night the face grins at you like a candle in a pumpkin and the back shows a little night sky. It has no arms and no hat, so it reads as a pumpkin on a patched coat; think autumn, not any particular holiday. Up to four laptop blades stand in a row in the coat. Its walls are solid, so from outside you never see a computer board; the buttons, patches and straw are glued on. Air comes in through the slatted vents in the plinth and leaves through the carvings. You pick 2, 3 or 4 computers and the model stays the same size: 0.50 x 0.50 m, 90 cm tall to the top of the stem.

Worth knowing

About 10.5 kg of filament with two computers and 12.3 kg with four (roughly 355 to 415 hours on a fast printer), in two colours: brown for the coat, the rib lines, the stem, the tendril and the leaf, and orange for the pumpkin head, its roof plate and inner wall, the buttons, the patches and the straw. The head is printed in nine cells with a 1.2 mm roof skin and glued together, so handle it with care; the thin straw tips are glued flat and stay fragile until then. The stem, tendril and leaf are decoration, never lift the scarecrow by them. They are glued on, so a hard knock can snap them off. It needs two 1 m LED strips, one for each half of the inner wall. The head (plate, cells, inner wall, ribs, stem, tendril and leaf glued into one) is not glued down because it is the way in; lift it straight up with both hands under the edge of its roof, never by the stem.

Budget black PETG.

Drives: every board keeps the drive its laptop came with (system only), so there is nothing to buy. A board bought without one needs a 256 GB M.2 2280 drive (approx. €56). Optional, not in the total: one shared disk of 1 TB or more for the render manager's shared folder, on one laptop board, in its own M.2 slot, or in a USB case (approx. €19) on the base floor. Reuse an old one, or buy a 1 TB M.2 2280 drive for approx. €136–146. Drive prices are approximate (October 2026): check before buying.

To print it at this size: 12.3 kg of PETG. Add 10% for waste and test pieces and that is 14 spools of 1 kg, approx. €196–266 with the PETG below (the shopping list above already includes filament). Print time, estimated: about 666 h with the standard 0.4 mm nozzle (Ender-3 V3 SE class), 413 h with a 0.6 mm nozzle.

Print times are slicer estimates (OrcaSlicer) and may vary by ±15 %.
