About this model

A generic chunky toy sailboat, like a wooden bath-toy boat, not a copy of any real boat or toy. The boat itself is the model: a navy hull a metre long with a raked bow, a sloping transom and a deck line that rises towards the bow, a flat deck round a cream cabin with navy portholes, a small doghouse on the cabin roof, a navy mast and boom, a mainsail that reaches out over the stern and a jib that runs forward to a short bowsprit. The computers are in the cabin: up to four laptop blades stand in a row inside it, and the lower half of the case is hidden inside the hull. The cabin walls are solid, so you never see a board from outside. Air comes in under the rim of the hull and through the slatted vents at the foot of the case, and leaves through the doghouse windows; at night two LED strips inside the doghouse light its twelve windows. You pick 2, 3 or 4 computers and the boat stays the same size: 1.30 x 0.61 m with the boom and the bowsprit, 100 cm to the mast top.

Worth knowing

About 10.5 kg of filament with two computers and 12.3 kg with four (roughly 340 to 400 hours on a fast printer), in two colours: navy for the hull, the deck, the portholes, the mast and the boom, and cream for the case and cabin walls, the cabin roof, the doghouse and the sails. The hull is a 1 mm skin in 39 pieces that overlap on short tongues; it carries nothing but itself, so do not lift the boat by the hull, the bowsprit or the sails - lift it under the cabin roof edge. The sails are 1.2 mm plates in five pieces each, glued along dovetails and slotted into the mast; how well they stay flat has only been worked out on paper, not seen on a real print. The hatch (cabin roof plate, doghouse, mast, boom and sails glued into one) is not glued down because it is the way in; lift it straight up with both hands under the doghouse roof. It is a static desk model.

Prices with VAT as shown in October 2026. Shipping, glue and the boards are not included. Also not counted, if you do not own them: a multimeter (about €8.56) and a power strip (about €15.12).

Budget black PETG.

Drives: every board keeps the drive its laptop came with (system only), so there is nothing to buy. A board bought without one needs a 256 GB M.2 2280 drive (approx. €56). Optional, not in the total: one shared disk of 1 TB or more for the render manager's shared folder, on one laptop board, in its own M.2 slot, or in a USB case (approx. €19) on the base floor. Reuse an old one, or buy a 1 TB M.2 2280 drive for approx. €136–146. Drive prices are approximate (October 2026): check before buying.

To print it at this size: 12.3 kg of PETG. Add 10% for waste and test pieces and that is 14 spools of 1 kg, approx. €196–266 with the PETG below (the shopping list above already includes filament). Print time, estimated: about 646 h with the standard 0.4 mm nozzle (Ender-3 V3 SE class), 403 h with a 0.6 mm nozzle.

Print times are slicer estimates (OrcaSlicer) and may vary by ±15 %.
