About this model

A chunky toy owl of no particular bird or character: a square brown body with cream feather chevrons on its chest, an outlined cream wing on each side with scalloped feather tips, three cream claw toes on each foot and a cream fan tail at the back. On top sits the head: brown walls under a roof that overhangs them, two big round eyes in cream face rings, a cream beak between them and two brown ear tufts on the roof. Inside the head a cream wall is lit from behind, so at night the whole owl stays dark, the back included, and only its two eyes glow, with a dark pupil in each one looking out at you. Up to four laptop blades stand in a row in the body. Its walls are solid, so from outside you never see a computer board; the feathers, wings and toes are glued on. Air comes in through the slatted vents in the plinth and leaves through the eyes. You pick 2, 3 or 4 computers and the model stays the same size: 0.53 x 0.50 m, 91 cm tall to the tips of the ear tufts.

Worth knowing

About 10.5 kg of filament with two computers and 12.3 kg with four (roughly 350 to 410 hours on a fast printer), in two colours: brown for the body, the head, the pupils and the ear tufts, and cream for the roof plate, the head's inner wall, the chevrons, wings, toes, tail, face rings and the beak. The head is printed in nine cells with a 1.2 mm roof skin and glued together, so handle it with care. The toes, wings and ear tufts are decoration, never lift or push the owl by them. They are glued on, so a hard knock can snap them off. It needs two 1 m LED strips, one for each half of the inner wall. The head (plate, cells, inner wall, face rings, beak, pupils and ear tufts glued into one) is not glued down because it is the way in; lift it straight up with both hands under the edge of its roof, never by the ear tufts or the beak.

Prices with VAT as shown in October 2026. Shipping, glue and the boards are not included. Also not counted, if you do not own them: a multimeter (about €8.56) and a power strip (about €15.12).

Budget black PETG.

Drives: every board keeps the drive its laptop came with (system only), so there is nothing to buy. A board bought without one needs a 256 GB M.2 2280 drive (approx. €56). Optional, not in the total: one shared disk of 1 TB or more for the render manager's shared folder, on one laptop board, in its own M.2 slot, or in a USB case (approx. €19) on the base floor. Reuse an old one, or buy a 1 TB M.2 2280 drive for approx. €136–146. Drive prices are approximate (October 2026): check before buying.

To print it at this size: 12.3 kg of PETG. Add 10% for waste and test pieces and that is 14 spools of 1 kg, approx. €196–266 with the PETG below (the shopping list above already includes filament). Print time, estimated: about 666 h with the standard 0.4 mm nozzle (Ender-3 V3 SE class), 413 h with a 0.6 mm nozzle.

Print times are slicer estimates (OrcaSlicer) and may vary by ±15 %.
