About this model
A generic straw skep, the bell-shaped beehive of coiled straw from old farm gardens, not a copy of any product. The skep itself is the model: a round bell of straw coils, each coil a real ridge you can feel, standing on a dark round stand. At the front, just above the stand, an arched entrance with a dark landing board under it; three bees with striped bodies and raised wings walk up the dome. The top of the dome, with its coils, lifts off as one piece and is the service hatch. At night a warm light shines out through thin dashes in the grooves between the lower coils of the dome, and the base glows behind the entrance. 0.88 x 0.82 m with the stand and the landing board, 98 cm to the top of the dome.
Worth knowing
About 10.5 kg of filament with two computers and 12.2 kg with four (roughly 340 to 400 hours on a fast printer), in two colours: honey straw for the coils of the body and the dome, the inner lamp wall, the roof plate and the bees' light stripes and wings, and dark brown for the stand, the landing board, the case walls (hidden inside), the dome flange, the spacers and the bees' tails, dark stripes and heads. The body and dome skins are thin (about 1 mm) and flexible until they are glued; the spacers and the lap tongues hold them. Nothing has been printed yet: how it looks and holds up in plastic has only been worked out on paper, not seen on a real print. It is a static desk model.

Budget black PETG.
Drives: every board keeps the drive its laptop came with (system only), so there is nothing to buy. A board bought without one needs a 256 GB M.2 2280 drive (approx. €56). Optional, not in the total: one shared disk of 1 TB or more for the render manager's shared folder, on one laptop board, in its own M.2 slot, or in a USB case (approx. €19) on the base floor. Reuse an old one, or buy a 1 TB M.2 2280 drive for approx. €136–146. Drive prices are approximate (October 2026): check before buying.
