About this model

A chunky toy dinosaur of no particular story or character: a square dark green body with two big cream feet at the bottom (each with three round toes), a cream belly with green stripes, two stubby cream paws at the shoulders, three cream spots on each side and a column of cream spikes running down its back. On top sits its head with a row of four tall cream plates standing along the ridge, leaning left and right in turn. The head is carved right through: two big round eyes and a wide grin full of teeth at the front, two three-toed footprints at the back. Inside the head a cream wall is lit from behind, so at night the dinosaur grins with glowing eyes, and from behind you see its tracks walking away. Up to four laptop blades stand in a row in the body. Its walls are solid, so from outside you never see a computer board; feet, belly, paws, spots and spikes are glued on. Air comes in through the slatted vents in the plinth and leaves through the carvings. You pick 2, 3 or 4 computers and the model stays the same size: 0.50 x 0.50 m, 99 cm tall to the tip of the biggest plate. The plates stand edge-on to the front, so they show best from the side and from three quarters.

Worth knowing

About 10.5 kg of filament with two computers and 12.3 kg with four (roughly 355 to 415 hours on a fast printer), in two colours: dark green for the body and the head, and cream for the feet, the belly, the paws, the spots, the spikes, the back plates, the head's floor plate and the inner wall of the head. The head is printed in nine cells with a 1.2 mm roof skin and glued together, so handle it with care. The back plates are hollow and glued onto the roof by their foot; they are decoration, never lift the dinosaur by them. They sit on the 1.2 mm roof skin, so a hard knock can snap them off. Seen from straight in front the plates are edge-on; they read best from three quarters and from the side. It needs two 1 m LED strips, one for each half of the inner wall. The head (plate, cells, inner wall and back plates glued into one) is not glued down because it is the way in; lift it straight up with both hands under the edge of its roof, never by the plates.

Budget black PETG.

Drives: every board keeps the drive its laptop came with (system only), so there is nothing to buy. A board bought without one needs a 256 GB M.2 2280 drive (approx. €56). Optional, not in the total: one shared disk of 1 TB or more for the render manager's shared folder, on one laptop board, in its own M.2 slot, or in a USB case (approx. €19) on the base floor. Reuse an old one, or buy a 1 TB M.2 2280 drive for approx. €136–146. Drive prices are approximate (October 2026): check before buying.

To print it at this size: 12.3 kg of PETG. Add 10% for waste and test pieces and that is 14 spools of 1 kg, approx. €196–266 with the PETG below (the shopping list above already includes filament). Print time, estimated: about 668 h with the standard 0.4 mm nozzle (Ender-3 V3 SE class), 414 h with a 0.6 mm nozzle.

Print times are slicer estimates (OrcaSlicer) and may vary by ±15 %.
