About this model
A chunky toy crystal garden, the kind of kit you grow crystals in, not a copy of any real one. The case is a square sunny yellow box. On its front and its back hangs a big purple light box, almost as wide as the case: its face is a cluster of five big pointed crystals fanning out of a rock, the middle one the tallest. Each crystal is solid purple with one big lit facet along its side. Inside each box a 2 m and a 1 m LED strip hide behind the solid sides of the crystals and a second 1 m strip behind the top band; they light the yellow wall behind the face, so at night the facets and the gaps between the crystals glow and the crystals stand purple in it. On top sits the purple lid with five slim vents on every side, lit from inside. Up to four laptop blades stand in a row in the case. Its walls are solid and the light boxes are glued on the outside of them, so from outside you never see a computer board, from any angle. Air comes in through the slatted vents in the plinth and leaves through the lid. You pick 2, 3 or 4 computers and the model stays the same size: 0.55 x 0.50 m, 80 cm tall. This is the third model with light boxes. The light boxes stand 30 mm proud on the front and the back, so the model is 545 mm deep.
Worth knowing
About 10.6 kg of filament with two computers and 12.4 kg with four (roughly 360 to 420 hours on a fast printer), in two colours: yellow for the case walls and the lid's inner wall, and purple for the lid, its floor plate and the two light boxes. Each light box is four flat pieces glued together and then onto the case wall; the face is only 1.2 mm thick and the box stands 3 cm out, so do not knock it or pick the model up by it. The LED strips are folded over at the top of each crystal; how evenly the crystals glow has only been worked out on paper, not seen on a real print. The lid (plate, cells and inner wall glued into one) is not glued down because it is the way in; lift it straight up with both hands under the edge of its roof. It needs nine LED strips in all: three 2 m (the usual one for the base glow, plus one hidden in each of the two light boxes) and six 1 m (two for the lid, and in each light box one behind the crystals and one behind the top edge). That is more LED strips than most models use, which raises the parts cost.

Budget black PETG.
Drives: every board keeps the drive its laptop came with (system only), so there is nothing to buy. A board bought without one needs a 256 GB M.2 2280 drive (approx. €56). Optional, not in the total: one shared disk of 1 TB or more for the render manager's shared folder, on one laptop board, in its own M.2 slot, or in a USB case (approx. €19) on the base floor. Reuse an old one, or buy a 1 TB M.2 2280 drive for approx. €136–146. Drive prices are approximate (October 2026): check before buying.

To print it at this size: 12.4 kg of PETG. Add 10% for waste and test pieces and that is 14 spools of 1 kg, approx. €196–266 with the PETG below (the shopping list above already includes filament). Print time, estimated: about 672 h with the standard 0.4 mm nozzle (Ender-3 V3 SE class), 416 h with a 0.6 mm nozzle.
Print times are slicer estimates (OrcaSlicer) and may vary by ±15 %.
