Instrument
Violin
A violin has no keys. You decide where your finger lands, and you hear straight away whether it is right.
Tap a string. Drag the violin to turn it. On a computer you can also bow with your keyboard: GDAE, and the space bar repeats the last stroke.
Listen Hänschen klein, eight seconds. Played on the A and the E string, which is about a year of lessons for most people.

Pick a part and this line tells you what it is for.
Where the left hand sits
1st position: the hand sits at the top of the fingerboard. The open strings sound G, D, A and E.
Who it is for
Is this for you?
- From age 6
- Size is no reason to wait, there are violins in quarter and half sizes. We measure your child's arm and send the right one home with you. Younger than that: early musical education, from age 5.
- Starting out
- No previous knowledge and no instrument of your own. For the first year you get a hire violin in the right size.
- After three months
- A short tune on two strings, bowed cleanly and without scratching. The sample above is about a year further on, and we would rather say that now than later.
- Practising at home
- Ten minutes a day does more than an hour on Sunday. The hire violin goes home with you, shoulder rest and rosin included.
- Adults
- The fingers learn faster than the bowing hand. Expect about six months before the sound carries reliably. After that it moves quickly.
Lessons
One to one, later in the ensemble
For the first two years we teach violin one to one, because the bowing hand needs a hand that corrects it. After that, many join the string ensemble on Friday.
Prices are per lesson. We bill monthly. There are no lessons during the Tyrolean school holidays and nothing is charged for them.
Teachers
Who you will sit with
Veronika Trenkwalder
Violin, viola
She starts children without written music and without the left hand: the bow first, and one good note on open strings. The fingers come in once the stroke holds. With adults she works from the first lesson on the piece they brought with them, and takes the hard bars one at a time.
Teaches Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, afternoons and evenings.
The first lesson is there to try things out.
We put a violin in your size into your hands, and in the first few minutes you bow a note that holds. Then you decide.
